Arthur Simon, 90, Longtime Yonkers Resident, World War II Veteran

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Arthur Simon, 90, a longtime Yonkers resident, died Monday, Feb. 23.

He was born March 21, 1924, to Charles and Sophie Bertha Simon in McKeesport, Pa.

He was raised and educated in Yonkers.

Simon served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-45. He was a private first class and saw action in Germany and France.

He was a maintenance mechanic at Refined Syrups and Sugars in Yonkers for 40 years until his retirement in 1987.

Simon was also a member of the Yonkers Senior Citizens for 30 years.

Survivors include one son, Arthur C. (Eileen) Simon of Nanuet; one daughter, Jeanne (Ed) Carpenter of Yonkers; one brother, Michael Simon of Yonkers; and six grandchildren.

His wife, Jean V. Leber Simon, preceded him in death.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., Yonkers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the St. Mary's Church, 103 S. Broadway, Yonkers.

Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
