Ann Sokol, 81, Former Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Ann Sokol of Yonkers died Friday, May 27. She was 81.

Born Jan. 28, 1935, in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Gorman Potter and sister of the late Charles Potter.

She retired from the payroll department of AT&T. She was active in the lives of her children and her community. The children attended St. Bartholomew's Catholic School. She and her husband, John, were active members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and St. John's Episcopal Church for many years. They were married May 27, 1961, in St. John's Episcopal Church in Getty Square, Yonkers. They relocated from Yonkers to Apex, N.C., in 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Burlew of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Lynne Dehnel and her husband, Keith, and Laura Sokol, all of Apex; her son, John Sokol, and his wife, Dina, of Trumbull Conn.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gary and Rachel Burlew, Kyle, Thomas and Kelly Dehnel, and Louis and John Sokol; and one great-granddaughter, Leah.

She was predeceased by her husband on Oct. 14, 2014.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, from 5-9 p.m. at Duchynski-Cherko Funeral Home, 111 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
