YONKERS, N.Y. -- Alice Ann (Bajek) Jacob, of Yonkers, died Thursday, Sept. 24. She was 72.

Jacob was born in Yonkers on March 25, 1943. She became critically ill on a vacation cruise in the middle of the North Atlantic with her daughter. Jacob was rescued at sea by an Irish Coast Guard helicopter that airlifted her from the ship and brought her to a hospital in Cork, Ireland, where she died several days later.

Jacob was born to Mary and Boleslaw Bajek (of Poland/Yonkers, N.Y). Survivors include sister, Janet Bajek Lyons; brother, Theodore Bajek; husband, David Jacob; children, Richard Jacob and Alethea Jacob; Godchild, Teddy Lyons, and nephews, TJ and Mikey Lyons; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

She had many friends, school mates, parishioners, and community members over the years and was a woman who made a positive impact to the many lives she touched.

When she was young, Jacob was a member of St. Casimir's parish, where she went to grade school. She attended St. Claire's Academy and at the age of 55 she went to Iona College and got her B.S. in computer science, graduating magna cum laude.

Jacob had a long career with Kraft / General Foods where she was the assistant to the trade show and event coordinator, and then worked at Community Choice Heath Services where she was their data base administrator, putting her college degree to good use.

She retired at 65 and spent the past seven years traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Alice was a member St. Bartholomew's Parish and a lifelong member of the community in Yonkers, N.Y., until 2013 when she moved to Southeast, N.Y.

Friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. A funeral will be Thursday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church in Yonkers.
