Alexander J. Stewart, 92, Assistant Postmaster In Yonkers Main Post Office

YONKERS, N.Y. - Alexander J. Stewart of Yonkers died Thursday, Dec. 5. He was 92.

Stewart was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Yonkers, where he was raised and graduated from Yonkers High School.

He worked as the assistant postmaster in the Yonkers Main Post Office for more than 35 years. He served during World War II in the Army; stationed in the Philippines. He received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for Valor.

He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, where he served as an usher and as a member of the Holy Name Society. He volunteered for Catholic Charities and organized Men's Retreats. He also was a member of the Colts Boys Club, where he coached both baseball and football and was director of Colts Football Program.

Stewart is survived by his wife, Emma; son, William (Beverly) Stewart. He was predeceased by Joseph and Dorothy Stewart and Betty Camerino.

Calling hours are Sunday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m.
