Officials from the Police, Public Works, Engineering and the Parks, Recreation, and Conservation departments launched a dog clean up awareness campaign Thursday, according to a press release.

The kickoff event was held at the intersection of Post Street and Elliott Avenue, as part of the effort to urge southwest Yonkers residents to do a better job cleaning up pet waste.

City officials will be distributing fliers to area residents; also, police and code enforcement officers will be increasing enforcement of the city’s dog waste ordinance.

Anyone who fails to pick up after their dog could be fined up to $1,500 under Yonkers city code.
