Yonkers Stabbing Victim Dies, ID'd

YONKERS, N.Y. --  A Yonkers man was found stabbed to death Tuesday afternoon on a sidewalk at 198 Elm St., after police were flagged down by pedestrians in the area, according to the Yonkers Police Department.

James D. Puryear, 24, was found lying unresponsive and bleeding from a stab wound to his torso when officers were flagged down in the area of Elm Street and Walnut Street, police said.

Officers  requested medical assistance, but emergency medical personnel were unable to revive Puryear with CPR as he was being transported to St.Hospital's where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., police said.

Detectives are actively investigating the murder and reviewing possible video in the area. Currently, no suspects have been charged.
