Spano stated:

“Fire Lt. Anthony Mangone was a hero in the truest sense of the word. He served his country as a marine and his city as a Yonkers firefighter.

“A 21-year veteran of the department, Anthony always made it a priority to give back to the community that gave him so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mangone family and the Yonkers Fire Department.”

Mangone, 48, died of natural causes on Tuesday.
