Yonkers Mayor Cuts Ribbon At Frozen Yogurt Store

YONKERS, N.Y. — Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and City Council President Chuck Lesnick welcomed CUPS Frozen Yogurt – That’s Hot to its first New York location with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Wednesday.

The store is in the Cross County Shopping Center, and is the chain's 10th location. Andy Race, director of operations for CUPS, was busy making sure everything was just right before the grand opening.

"We really feel like we are a great fit for Yonkers, and it means so much to receive such a warm welcome,” Race said. "We feel that we are bringing the people of Yonkers a great product, and will show them how to do frozen yogurt right."

The self-service yogurt chain lets customers mix and match 24 yogurt flavors with more than 50 toppings. The store has vibrant panels, vintage murals, loud dance music and a neon couch. The goal was to create a place where anyone could come and have a good time, Race said.

"Frozen yogurt is booming in the dessert industry right now because it's fun for everyone from kids to adults," Race said. "We took that concept and designed our store to have a fun and club-like atmosphere."

Spano said he couldn't be any more excited with the opening of CUPS in Yonkers.

"CUPS is a successful franchise, so they could have opened anywhere, but they specifically chose Yonkers," Spano said. "I've been saying this for years, but Yonkers is a place that businesses and people want to be. It’s very exciting."

The Yonkers CUPS will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
