Now is the time to prove it.
The city will begin its search for the next teen and pre-teen sensations Saturday with the kick-off of the “Yonkers Got Talent” 2013 competitions.
Hosted by the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, the launch party will begin the city-wide talent competitions, “Yonkers Idol” and “Yonkers Best Dance Crew.”
“The time has come for our youth to showcase their talent to the City of Yonkers,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “These competitions provide immeasurable experience for our young residents and I encourage all those who have the dream to perform to audition and show us just how talented Yonkers is.”
The launch will begin Saturday at 5:20 p.m. inside E.J. Murrays Skating Center, 378 Tuckahoe Road. There, party-goers can enjoy karaoke, ice skating and a competition information session.
Aspiring participants will also be given an opportunity to stretch their vocal chords and loosen up their legs by practicing for their auditions.
Registration is free and open for Yonkers residents only. Interested participants can reserve attendance to the kick-off party by emailing yonkersgottalent@gmail.com.
A week later, on March 2, the competition will heat up as first-round live auditions for “Yonkers Idol” and “Junior Idol” begin.
“Yonkers Idol” and “Junior Idol” winners hold the titles for a year and perform at various city ceremonies and events.
Dancers will have until two weeks later, on March 15, to submit their videos to be considered for the “Yonkers Best Dance Crew” competition.
