"We all know a lot of serial killers had histories of animal abuse," said criminologist Vernon J. Geberth, a retired lieutenant in the New York City Police Department, in the LoHud report. "There is definitely a pathology."

SPCA Westchester officer Ernest Lungaro is investigating the cat killings. He told LoHud that the perpetrators of animal cruelty could be capable of more, according to the report.

"There is definitely a connection with violence against people," said Lungaro, a former lieutenant in the NYPD's Organized Crime Control Bureau, in the LoHud report.
