YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers baseball prospect Michael Nolan is brain dead as following wounds suffered in a drive-by shooting in September, according to a report by News 12 Westchester.
Nolan, 23, was shot in the head and arm Sept. 18 as he and some friends were standing in a Burger King parking lot on Central Avenue.
Earlier published reports, and social media posts, had stated Nolan had died Thursday. But a family member said late Thursday afternoon that Nolan was "brain dead," News 12 reported.
Nolan, a baseball star who graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School, was drafted by the Oakland A's but had spent much of his career recovering from injuries.
Police believe the shooting was related to drag racing that occurred in the area, according to WABC-TV.
The 6-foot-7 Nolan, a left-handed pitcher and Saunders High School alum, was drafted by Oakland in the 18th round of the 2014 draft.
