Westchester Parkway Closures Mount As Nor'easter Sweeps Through Area

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The heavy rain accompanying the Nor'easter that is sweeping through Westchester resulted in the closure of portions of the Bronx River Parkway, Hutchinson River Parkway and Saw Mill River Parkway in Westchester on Tuesday.

The stretch of the Hutch that closed was between East Lincoln Avenue in Mount Vernon and the Cross County Parkway. It closed in both directions at 2:15 p.m.

The northbound Saw Mill River Parkway shut down at Farragut Avenue on the Hastings/Yonkers border at 3:30 p.m.

The Bronx River Parkway was closed between Old Tarrytown Road/Cemetery Road (Exit 23) and Main Street (Exit 21) in White Plains, resulting in stopped traffic prior to the closure and delays of up to 20 minutes.

The parkway was also closed southbound between Greenacres Avenue (Exit 16) and Fenimore Road (Exit 15) and between Harney Road (Exit 10) and the Sprain Brook Parkway and northbound between the Sprain Brook Parkway and Scarsdale Road (Exit 4) and

Several accidents also tied up traffic during the day.

An accident reported at 1 p.m. on the southbound Taconic State Parkway resulted in tieups between Underhill Avenue and Route 134 in Yorktown.

The left lane of the northbound Taconic State Parkway was blocked between Steven Avenue and Route 141 in Mount Pleasant following a 9:30 a.m. accident, resulting in stop-and-go traffic.

I-684 southbound had the left lane blocked between Route 22 (Exit 3) in Armonk and Route 120 (Exit 2) in Purchase, resulting in stop-and-go conditions.

Emergency were on the scene of an earlier accident on the Cross County Parkway between Exit 6 (Bronx River Parkway) and Kimball/Midland Avenue (Exit 5) in Yonkers that initially took out two lanes. Two vehicles sustained damaged in the accident that resulted in stop-and-go traffic.
