The minimum penalties for texting and driving remained the same, but the maximum penalties were each raised $50. The maximum fine for a first offense was raised from $150 to $200. A second offense within 18 months has been raised from $200 to $250. Three or more offenses within 18 months now carries a maximum fine of $450, up from $400.
Texting and driving citations will be a five-point violation for the driver. Drivers on a juvenile license could have their driving privilege suspended for up to one year.
