The incident began around 1 a.m. when an undercover officer was watching a black male wearing grey sweatpants and sweatshirt as he walked along Palmer Road in Yonkers trying car doors to see if they were unlocked, said Lt. Michael Hanley.

When the officer went to approach the man, he jumped into an unlocked car and sped off with police in pursuit. The chase continued into Bronxville where the suspect slammed into a sign and jumped out of the vehicle and ran from the area across the train tracks near Kraft Avenue,  Hanely said.

Dozens of officers from both Yonkers and Bronxville, along with a K-9 unit set up a large perimeter to search for the man, he added.

"We were unable to locate the suspect and the search has been called off," Hanley said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident are asked to contact the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7200.
