YONKERS, N.Y. -- Strong winds on Monday knocked over a tree in Yonkers, damaging power lines throughout the area and leaving hundreds without power Tuesday morning, according to lohud.com.

The National Weather Service said the winds, as high as 50 mph, toppled the tree on Raymond Place in Yonkers, taking out a section of sidewalk before landing on top of a car. In addition, a wind warning has been issued for the Tappan Zee Bridge, along with a reduced speed of 45 mph, said lohud.com.

A high-wind warning remained in effect Tuesday until noon, with a chance of gusts as high as 50 mph, said the Weather Service. Con Edison and NYSEG reported hundreds without power in the tristate area, added lohud.com.
