Storm Will Disrupt Thanksgiving Eve Travel In Yonkers

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The storm headed to Westchester County on Wednesday could be a perfect storm of sorts -- coming on the nation's busiest travel day and delivering snow and resulting in hazardous travel.

But because temperatures will hover at or above the freezing mark most of the day on Wednesday, it's uncertain how much of the precipitation will be rain or snow.

Though any snow had yet to fall, the incoming storm resulting in school closure and early dismissal announcements on Tuesday night you can access here.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday for Northern Westchester with anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of accumulation possible in Westchester, with higher amounts to the north and west. The Winter Storm Warning that had been in effect for Central and Southern Westchester has been downgraded to a Winter Storm Advisory.

While accumulations totals are uncertain, the storm will impact travel conditions, reducing visibility to a quarter- to a half-mile at times, according to the National Weather Service.

The Winter Storm Warning covers the Hudson Valley as well as most of the interior of Connecticut and northern New Jersey.

For Westchester, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. The area will see a mix of rain and snow throughout the day, with a high near 40 degrees. 

Thanksgiving Day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 37 degrees. Strong winds will drop the wind chill values to 25 and 30 degrees.
