YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers is set to host residents looking to receive basic STAR exemption on Monday, Dec. 30.
The New York State Tax Department, via Mayor Mike Spano's mobile tax satellite office, will register homeowners from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Homefield House, Beverly Road, Yonkers.
The STAR Registration program impacts 154,865 Basic STAR recipients in Westchester County, and 2.6 million homeowners statewide, representatives said.
"The registration facilitates Governor Cuomo’s initiative to protect New Yorkers from fraud and waste in the STAR Program," representatives said. "The average homeowner saves $700 as a result of the Basic STAR exemption, which is available on the primary residence of homeowners with incomes under $500,000."
The registration deadline is Dec. 31 in order to continue receiving the exemption in 2014. Homeowners can register online at the Tax Department's website . Those with questions are asked to call 518-457-2036.
