A high wind watch for gusts of up to 55 mph has been issued for Wednesday evening for much of the area.

"Winds of this magnitude could down trees and tree limbs, power lines and holiday decorations. and cause minor property damage," the National Weather Service says. "Power outages are possible."

Rain and snow could begin around 1 p.m. Wednesday, with heavier rain and stronger winds coming Wednesday night. Up to two inches of rain could fall, says the Weather Service, which has also issued a flood watch for the Westchester County coast.

The rain and wind should taper off through the morning Thursday, with gusts to 36, and a high temperature of 46. Friday should be sunny, with a high near 39, the Weather Service says.

The next chance of wintry weather comes Saturday into Sunday, the Weather Service says.
