Planned Parenthood, Support Connection Join Nonprofit Westchester

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Inc. and Support Connection, Inc. have united with Tarrytown-based Nonprofit Westchester (NPW), an advocacy organization that represents nearly 100 nonprofits in the county.

“These two nonprofits make huge contributions to our county each and every day with very resourceful services," said Joanna Straub, executive director.

"We are proud to welcome Parenthood Hudson Peconic and Support Connection into our network.”

"As we continue to grow in 2014 and the nonprofit sector becomes more of a need in our society, we hope that we are able to help strengthen their messages and increase their visibility in our communities.”

Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Inc. (PPHP) oversees 11 health centers in Westchester, Suffolk, Rockland and Putnam counties. The organization provides services and information to help prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

In addition to providing birth control, prevention testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, PPHP health centers offer lifesaving cancer screenings, breast health services, pap tests and counseling. Its Westchester centers are located in Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers.

Support Connection, based in Yorktown Heights, offers free confidential support services to those affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Personalized information and support, wellness and educational programs and support groups are some of the services offered to women, family and friends.

Professional peer counselors on staff, who are breast and ovarian cancer survivors, provide one-on-one support, information and resource referrals nationwide through a toll-free telephone line.

NPW provides the nonprofit sector with a single unified voice for the role it plays in the economic vitality and sustainability of the county. The organization focuses on sharing resources, connections, information and works to strengthen the nonprofit sector’s partnership with the for-profit and government sectors for a more just and caring community.
