YONKERS, N.Y. -- A stretch of North Broadway in Yonkers reopened late Wednesday morning after the Westchester County bomb squad determined a suspicious item found in the trunk of a car was not an explosive device.

The report of the possible device, made around 8 a.m., resulted in the closure between High Street and Lamartine Avenue.

Residents in the area were told to stay indoors and away from windows.

Yonkers Police say an investigation is continuing as to the origin of the device, which has been rendered safe and removed from the scene. No one has been charged.

Members of the Yonkers Police Department are currently conducting interviews. Anyone with information can contact the Detective Division at 914-377-7724. All calls will remain confidential.
