Yonkers Public Schools operated on a half-day schedule Friday and canceled all activities for Saturday. The cancellation includes PEARLS Hawthorne testing, district officials said.
Athletes will receive an update from their coaches about scheduled weekend practices and playoff games.
The Yonkers Public Library was also closed at noon Friday. Residents as asked to the call 914-337-1500 after 9 a.m. tomorrow to find out if the library will be closed on Saturday.
In addition, city officials have announced the cancellation of all Friday programs for the Office for the Aging. A number of Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation activities were closed at noon Friday and will remain closed Saturday. They include:
- Pre-K Programs
- Senior Centers
- Skating Rink
- Rifle Range
- Yonkers Montessori Academy & Yonkers Avenue Pools
- Evening Recreation Programs
- Saturday Gym Use
- Saturday Recreation Programs
- Project Friendship
City officials also suspended alternate side of the parking Friday, and parking meters were suspended for Friday and Saturday.
Officials are advising residents to move vehicles parked on city snow emergency routes. All of the emergency routes are posted with red and white signs. For a complete list, visit the city’s website.
In addition, the Department of Public Works said the Organic Waste Disposal Yard and the Recycling Center will be closed Saturday.
The Hudson River Museum has announced it will close Friday at 2 p.m. and remain closed all day Saturday.
The museum has also canceled its reception for the "The Panoramic River" exhibit which was scheduled for Friday evening.
In addition, Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway will close at 8 p.m. Friday has cancelled all harness races. According to its Twitter account, the casino hopes to open again at noon on Saturday.
