Born in Guyana and a current resident of Yonkers, Vidya first started working at Keane & Beane in 2011 through the Westchester County Bar Association (WCBA) Diversity Committee’s Summer Intern Program.
Vidya recently received her paralegal certificate from Pace University and officially joined the firm as a Paralegal on April 1, assisting in the education law, municipal law and litigation and dispute resolution practices.
"Working at Keane & Beane has changed my perspective,” according to Singh. “When I started here, I wanted to be a teacher. I have learned that there is so much more to law than going to court – for example how to follow the correct legal procedures. Now I am committed to a legal career.”
The WCBA Summer Intern Program was developed for local high school students who are from social, cultural, racial and ethnic groups statistically under-represented in the legal profession.
By working 20-25 hours per week at a law firm for at least six weeks, the program exposes these students to the practice of law at an early age, thereby raising their academic and professional aspirations. Keane & Beane has actively joined a dozen other Westchester firms as a regular participant in this program since its inception in 2007.
“Our WCBA student interns consistently impress us,” according to Judson K. Siebert, principal member of Keane & Beane. “But Vidya stood out and engendered great trust among our staff even as a young adult.”
In addition to her paralegal certificate, Singh earned an associate degree n Criminal Justice from Berkeley College, while working part-time for Keane & Beane from 2011-14.
