According to officials, the resident reported that two white men, one approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a New York Yankees hat and yellow sunglasses, the other a heavy-set male approximately 5 feet 6 inch tall, wearing a Yankees hat and blue jacket, claimed to be Yonkers Water employees.

The men said they needed to inspect the water and gas lines in the home, and were allowed inside.

The resident later discovered the money was missing, according to officials.

The Yonkers Detective Division is investigating to see if this incident is related to three prior incidents where the suspects also posed as Water Bureau employees near Teresa Avenue, Maple Place and another at Monroe Place.

One to four suspects will typically target a home occupied by elderly residents, police said. The men say they have to come inside because of a water problem in the area, either a foul odor in the water or to check pipes in the basement, according to police.

Police officials advise family members and neighbors of elderly people to reach out and warn them of these incidents.

Yonkers DPW Water Bureau employees carry ID cards that are displayed on their outermost garments. Meter reading or the installation of a new water meter will only be done by appointment.
