Hundreds Attend Wake For Yonkers Detective Killed In Crash

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people gathered in Yonkers Wednesday to remember the police detective killed in a tragic accident on Valentine’s Day, according to a report by News12.

One person attending Frank Fernandez’s wake told a News12 reporter that she had grown up with him and remembered him as both cheerful and helpful.

Fernandez died when his SUV collided with a firetruck that was on a call near Palmer Road on Sunday, Feb. 14.

The wake continues today (Thursday, Feb. 18) from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Services for the 45-year-old father of two were being handled by the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home at 168 Park Ave., Yonkers.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers.

Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson.
