Horror Movie Films In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – When the horror flick “Innocence” hits theaters next year, some of the scenery may look familiar to Yonkers residents.

The cast and crew of the indie film, including star Stephanie March, best known for her role as Alex Cabot in “Law and Order: SVU,” has left Hollywood behind in favor of North Broadway.

The film will be shooting in Yonkers over the next two weeks at undisclosed locations, said a representative of Killer Films, the production company behind “Innocence.”

Crews will be at Tara Circle at Alder Manor at 1097 N. Broadway and at Executive Broadway and Odell Terrace, presumably at the abandoned warehouse, according to the website Before the Trailer.

Production trucks and movie equipment, along with signs directing the cast and crew where to park, could be seen dotting the landscape at Alder Manor on Thursday.

The movie, based on an identically titled 2000 book by Jane Mendelsohn, is “a coming-of-age goth story set in Manhattan that centers on a moody teenager who discovers her elite private school is home to a vampire gang,” according to IonCinema.

The site names the movie its 56th most anticipated film of 2012.

“It is this coming-of-ager that we feel holds the most promise as the form, from the book description, is reminiscent of some of those plot-twisting Spanish thriller titles,” the website says.

Yonkers has been a popular destination for movie directors over the years, hosting the blockbuster titles “Big Daddy,” “Catch Me If You Can” and “American Gangster

Alder Manor, built in the early 1900s by mining tycoon William Boyce Thompson, has also been featured on the big screen, first in “A Beautiful Mind” and later in “Mona Lisa Smile

The latest film crew to set up shop in Yonkers has kept a low profile, according to locals.

“I’ve seen the trucks, but I didn’t know they were shooting a movie,” Vincent Bernacki said as he walked across the street from the abandoned warehouse on Odell Terrace. “But if they were going to shoot a horror movie, this is a good place to do it.”
