Former NYC Cop, Ex-Yonkers Resident Gets Prison Term For Insurance Fraud

YONKERS, N.Y. -- A former New York City police officer and ex-Yonkers resident faces up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding insurance companies, according to lohud.com.

Jose Urena, formerly of Yonkers, made fraudulent auto insurance claims, filed false documents and provided false testimony while avoiding payments on a pair of Mercedes-Benzes and paying for upgrades on a Dodge Charger, according to lohud.com.

Urena, who previously pleaded guilty in Manhattan to one count each of third-degree insurance fraud and first-degree scheme to defraud, had also pleaded guilty in Westchester to one count of first-degree falsifying business records, according to lohud.com. 

The former police officer was sentenced to two to six years in state prison for his crimes in New York City. The sentence will be served concurrently with a sentence of one to three years he received in Westchester, according to lohud.com.
