Bird Flu Spurs 'Brutal' Egg Price Hike

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Though a deadly bird flu epidemic has not actually impacted fowl in Westchester County and other parts of the state, it has dramatically increased the cost of eggs for merchants, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Some business owners have gone from paying about $45 for a case of 360 eggs to $75 per case of 30 dozen cartons of eggs, the Democrat and Chronicle reported.

Restaurateurs are experiencing similar financial impact, paying anywhere from $2.10 to $2.50 for a dozen eggs rather than the average $1.30, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.
