Hamm & Clove Stage Company was among 35 local arts organizations to receive $41,000 in Arts Alive Grants, ArtsWestchester announced last week.
The grants are funded by the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts. It is administered by ArtsWestchester, based in White Plains.
“These programs make the arts easily accessible to hundreds of people by bringing neighbors together for a common experience,” ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam said in a statement. “The grants truly help foster a sense of community.”
Hamm & Clove’s bilingual theatrical family event will be performed at the Yonkers Riverfront Library later this year. It will include artists from award-winning Teatro IATI. The free educational performance is for children ages 10 and younger, organizers say.
At a White Plains breakfast ceremony announcing the distribution of the grants earlier this month, State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) said the funding helps to ensure that arts remain at the center of community life.
“This is how young people become engaged, where careers begin and where talents emerge and grow,” she said.
This year, Arts Alive grants support projects in more than 15 Westchester municipalities.
The awards are given through a competitive process that includes a panel of community members and arts professionals.
