Yonkers Stop & Shake Initiative Promotes Communication

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Mayor Mike Spano, various police organizations and residents have joined to officially launch Stop & Shake, a citywide initiative to encourage more communication between police officers and the public.

Stop & Shake is a community/police initiative created by community organizer Hector Santiago that simply encourages members of the community and police officers to get to know each other by simply greeting each other with a handshake.

The initiative, created by Yonkers resident Hector Santiago with participation from members of the Yonkers Police Department, encourages the public and police officers to build personal relationships through a common greeting – the handshake.

Spano, Santiago, Police Commissioner Charles Gardner, members of the Yonkers Police Department, Yonkers Police Benevolent Association, the Yonkers Captains, Lieutenants and Sergeants Association, Shawyn Patterson Howard, CEO of the Yonkers Family YMCA and local residents have joined together in the initiative.
