YONKERS, N.Y. -- I want to share some great news with you.

Last week, Standard and Poor's (S&P), upgraded Yonkers' bond rating three notches to A+. It's the highest bond rating the city has had in the last 30 years, and it's a sign that Yonkers is moving in the right direction and our economy is gaining steam.

It also shows just how far we've come in the last two years. As recently as 2011, Moody's gave Yonkers a negative fiscal outlook. Today, after two consecutive bipartisan, balanced budgets, renewed economic development initiatives and job creation, and the lowest property tax increase in 15 years, we're building a new Yonkers - and we're doing it by working together.

Here in Yonkers, we've seen what can happen when Democrats and Republicans put politics aside to do what's right for the people. I want to thank my partners on the City Council from both sides of the aisle for their steadfast dedication to improving our city.

There's a lot more work to be done, but as we near the New Year and reflect on 2013, I wanted to share this news with you. Here's a link with more information on our bond rating upgrade. I hope you'll pass it on.  Sincerely,

Mike Spano Mayor
