To celebrate this occasion, a special performance of the pas de deux from Peter Martins’ Romeo and Juliet was performed by Principal Dancers Sterling Hyltin and Robert Fairchild. Family and friends were on hand to toast the Solomons for their commitment to the arts.
Bernard Gersten of Lewisboro, former executive director of Lincoln Center Theater, and New York City Ballet’s Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins, who lives in Irvington, were also in attendance.
Nearly every work in New York City Ballet’s unparalleled repertory has been either created or rehearsed in the Solomon Main Hall including landmark classics by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins; to contemporary works by Peter Martins, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck and many others. It has been central to the creative output of New York City Ballet, and has served as a workplace and sanctuary for many of the company's greatest dancers.
