For months, volunteers with the League and YPIE have been collecting donations from Bed Bath and Beyond that included everything a college student could possibly need as they get set to kick start their college careers.

In total, more than 30 Yonkers Public School students were outfitted with comforter sets, sheets, towels, pillows, sundries and other essentials in advance of their treks to school. Each of the students are part of the YPIE’s college preparatory program, which provides participants with the tools and tutoring necessary to succeed in college.

The drive recently concluded with the future college freshmen made their way to the Yonkers Public Library Riverview room for a “shopping event,” where they perused the donations and were able to pick and choose their favorite items.

This year, in addition to the various donations from Bed Bath and Beyond, the League received a donation from Dormify that included a collection of duvet sets and decorative pillows for the students. Erica Sevilla, the president of the Junior League of Bronxville, said that the event offers an opportunity to empower young women.

“As a women’s organization, the Junior League of Bronxville is pleased to be able to support these bright, young women as they embark on their college careers.”
