Yonkers One Stop will offer the discount cards beginning March 1 thanks to a collaborative effort between Yonkers Workforce Investment Board (YWIB) and FamilyWize Community Service Partnership, Mayor Mike Spano announced Wednesday.

“With rising costs of medical coverage, this new initiative provided by the YWIB and FamilyWize will have a positive impact on the growing number of families who struggle to pay for their medical expenses each year,” Spano said.

Officials said the FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card can save customers up to 75 percent of their medicine costs with an average $20 savings per prescription.  The free card can be picked up at Yonkers One Stop, on the 12th floor of 20 South Broadway.

The card is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide and is available for families who have no health insurance or who purchase medicine that is not covered by their insurance, officials said.

With its newest partnership, Yonkers joins more than 30,000 groups and individuals across the country with the intention of distributing free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards in their communities.

The FamilyWize goal is to reduce the cost of prescription medicine for children, families and individuals by $1 billion by the end of 2015, the group said.
