The result? Gino's on South Broadway in the Park Hill section, won with 460 votes. "Pizza is very much a part of Yonkers," said Spano.
Mayor Spano mentioned, in fact, that he grew up in the Park Hill area and remembered going to Gino's when he was young.
Gino's owner, Antonio Porco, was very happy to receive the award. "I have been here since 1975 and I'm very happy to receive this honor," he said. "I love the people in Yonkers and I will keep my business here forever."
Carol Salter, a Yonkers resident who was enjoying lunch with a friend at Gino's was very happy to hear of its newest honor. "I was raised in South Yonkers and I still come back here for the pizza," she said.
What does Salter like about Gino's pizza? "Everything is fresh all of the time, it's never dry, they give you a decent sized slice for $2.50 and it's well worth it."
