The ordinance will bring new opportunities for artists and businesses, said Minority Leader Michael Sabatino.

The new district will include art galleries, eateries and retailers associated with the district, he added.

“This has been a project that has been in the works for about three years. The process began after I had a conversation at the YoHo Arts Weekend Open House with George Huang, one of the owners of the complex, about creating this arts district," Sabatino said. "The details and execution were accomplished with the guidance of the Planning Department staff and the support of the mayor’s office. I am excited to see this come to fruition. I want to thank all involved with the process and my fellow council colleagues for their support in creating this new district”

Residents will have a chance to check out the new district during this year's YoHo open house during Arts Weekend, May 14-15.
