“White Plains used to be known solely for its vast office complexes, with a downtown that had little to offer once workers filtered out at 5 pm,’’ MONEY reported in its article. “Nowadays, the streets are filled in the evening hours with folks who come to shop at the upscale Galleria, dine at the City Center or catch a show at the White Plains Center for Performing Arts.”
The story mentioned White Plains’ proximity to New York City, and its local businesses, such as Heineken USA and ITT. Attractions in White Plains, such as the Cranberry Lake Preserve and Saxon Woods Park, which has golf, swimming and more, were also mentioned in the story.
Data for White Plains' ranking included population, median family income, projected job growth, median home price, average property taxes, colleges, universities, reading test scores, and math test scores. Additional data included quality-of-life issues such as air quality index, public safety and the percentage of the population who commute, walk or bike to work.
