Yonkers' Untermyer Gardens Will Be All Aglow For Holiday Season

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers are going to grow more sparkly for the holidays.

A Grand Holiday Illumination ceremony is set at the walled gardens at 6 p.m. Friday.

The garden’s architecture and plantings will be dramatically lighted in a 10-point countdown led by Mayor Mike Spano and former Mayor Angelo Martinelli.

The park is at 945 N. Broadway. The event is being co-sponsored by the city.

Before the ceremony, starting at 5 p.m., the string quartet Encore will play classical music. Hot chocolate will be served.

In keeping with the theme of peace on Earth, visitors will hear recorded music from the Zorastrian, Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions.

The Illumination will continue on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5:30-8 p.m. until Jan. 3.

Admission is free.
