YONKERS, N.Y. -- Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Downtown Business Improvement District kicked off a cocktail competition at Dolphin Restaurant on Wednesday, July 30, to promote the city's newest marketing campaign: Generation Yonkers.
Bartenders from six of Yonkers' top restaurants have designed cocktails honoring the jazz age in conjunction with the city's summer concert series. These cocktails will be put to the test throughout August as people vote for them via social media.
The competition concludes with a "shake-off" on Sept. 3, when a panel of food experts will also choose a winner.
Participating restaurants include X20, Zuppa Restaurant, Guapo Concina Mexicana, Dolphin Restaurant, Cafe Hudson and Empire Casino.
Bartenders from Dolphin Restaurant and Cafe Hudson were at the competition's unveiling to show off their creations.
Dolphin's Charlie Parker Punch is made with SKYY grape vodka, pineapple juice and cherry juice, shaken and served in a highball glass garnished with a lemon wheel.
Cafe Hudson's Dizzy Julepsie is a modern twist on a mint julep, which mixes spiced rum, fresh lemon juice and muddled mint in a lowball glass garnished with a sprig of mint.
Zuppa's Tall Caprese is made with vodka, fresh-squeezed citrus, local basil and grape tomatoes with carbonated water served in a highball glass.
X20's Summertime Swing is made with Slovenia Vodka, watermelon, mint, lime and St. Germain served in a highball glass. Its other cocktail, Gerorgia on My Mind, is made with Slovenia vodka, fresh peach, ginger beer and lemon peel, served in a highball glass garnished with a peach slice.
Guapo Cocina's Jalapeno Mojito is cane rum muddled with jalapeno and mint with a hint of cilantro, served in a lowball glass garnished with three jalapeno slices on a toothpick.
Empire City's Orange Basil Mojito is orange vodka, fresh basil and sliced oranges muddled and mixed with a hint of lime juice and topped off with a splash of soda, served in a lowball glass and garnished with an orange wedge.

The Generation Yonkers campaign seeks to market Yonkers as the new place to be for businesses and the new place to go for those looking for a good time, touting the City as "the new Williamsburg."
