YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers Police Department will be hosting a free distracted driving awareness course for young adults every Wednesday afternoon beginning Wednesday, June 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The classes will be held at the Yonkers Police Training Unit on 730 East Grassy Sprain Road, Yonkers. Classes will continue through Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The class is open for any drivers between the ages of 16-20 and designed to show teenagers how dangerous distracted driving is.
The class will cover several topics including: 1.) New York state vehicle and traffic laws 2.) Stopping a vehicle; speed and distance 3.) Techniques about accident avoidance 4.) Practical exercises on a driving simulator
Students will be instructed and guided by certified New York State Emergency vehicle operations instructors.
