Yonkers Isn't Clowning Around It's Purim

YONKERS, N.Y. — Usually we say stop clowning around but, not at Chabad of Yonkers. It's Purim and its time for the clowns to have a little bit of fun.

This year's theme for Purim was clowns and as part of the festivities everyone was asked to dress up as a clown.

Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz was very pleased with the amount of people made the effort to come out to celebrate Purim despite the snowstorm, that hit and the fact that Yonkers had run out of salt. "It was a miracle that people came to celebrate. I really didn't expect to see many people, but they braved the snow and came," said Rabbi Hurwitz.

Why the clown theme?

"Purim is such a happy time and clowns are there to make you happy and you to express the happiness and push away the darkness" said Rabbi Hurwitz.

Purim is a joyful day of the year.

There was a Megillah Reading (a reading of the megillah (book of Esther),recounts the story of the Purim miracle). Other festivities had children making their own crowns, and everyone enjoyed a great kosher hot dinner buffet along with some traditional Hamentashen.
