Monday, Sept. 10

Yonkers Council of PTSA Executive Board Meeting: 7 p.m. The Executive Board of the Yonkers Public Schools PTSA will meet. Saunders Trades & Technical High School, 183 Palmer Road.

Riverfront 10th Birthday: Movies that Celebrate Reading: 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The 10th birthday celebration of the Riverfront Branch of the Yonkers Public Library continues as children are welcome to watch two films that focus on reading and libraries. The first, “Because of Winn-Dixie,” will show from 10 a.m.-noon. The second, “Nanny McPhee,” will run from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

Yonkers Public Schools Audit, Budget & Finance Committee Meeting: 5:30 p.m. The Audit, Budget and Finance Committee of the Yonkers Public School’s Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting. 4th Floor Board Room, Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Sept. 11 Memorial Dedication: 7:30 p.m. The City of Yonkers will dedicate a 38-foot steel beam that once supported a tower at the World Trade Center as a Sept. 11 memorial. Conor Park, corner of Central Park and McLean avenues.

Passport to Adventure: Jamaica: 2 p.m. Travel the world in a series of free monthly film presentations of about one hour. Light refreshments served. Bring a light sweater. No reservations required for individuals, but for groups of 10 people or more should call librarian Jody Maier 337-1500, ext. 492, in advance. Wednesday, Sept 12

Planning Board Meeting: 5:30 p.m. The city Planning Board will meet to discuss various zoning ordinances and site-plan reviews. City Hall, 40 South Broadway.

City Council Meeting: 8 p.m. The Yonkers City Council will reconvene after a summer break. Members are expected to discuss and vote on a number of resolutions. City Hall, 40 South Broadway. 

Riverfront 10th Birthday: Story Time: 10:30 a.m. Children up to 12 years old are welcome to join librarian Kathleen Judd for story time in celebration of Riverfront's 10th anniversary. Small People’s Place, Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Yonkers Partners in Education: 6 p.m. YPIE will hold a college financial aid workshop. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Thursday, Sept. 13

Yonkers Office of Emergency Management Presents “Yonkers Prepares!”: 5 p.m. The City of Yonkers will host a free Public Awareness Contingency Training session. Light refreshments will be served. Dickens Event Day: 10 a.m. One of two scheduled Dickens Event Days. In this celebration of Charles Dickens, enjoy picture book story time readings, making comic book art for teens, artist demonstrations, discussion panel on Dickens, interviews, lectures and performance readings by Friends of Dickens. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Volunteer Center of United Way: 9 a.m. Celebrate an All Day of Service event by taking part in a book drive sorting. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.
