What's Happening In Yonkers This Week

YONKERS, N.Y. – A meeting of the Yonkers Board of Education and a pair of movie screenings are among the things happening in Yonkers this week. Check out our calendar listings for more events.

Monday, Aug. 20

AARP Work Search: 10 a.m. Job seekers 40 years of age and older are welcome to visit for a skills assessment and upgrade as well as a job search program designed to assist mature job seekers. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Library, 1 Larking Center.

Movie Mondays - “The Hunger Games”: 2 p.m. The movie series continues at the Yonkers Public Library with a screening of “The Hunger Games.” Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Tuesday, Aug. 21

Zoning Board of Appeals: 6 p.m. The board is expected to discuss a number of area and use variances for properties around the city. Ceremonial Court Room, Fourth Floor of Yonkers City Hall, 40 South Broadway.

Main Street Film Series At Dusk: 8 p.m. Watch “Muppets” as it is projected onto a giant inflatable outdoor screen in downtown Yonkers. Admission is free. The film will be shown between 86 Main St. and the U.S. Post Office.

Wednesday, Aug. 22

Yonkers Board of Education: 7 p.m. The board is expected to discuss and vote on a number of resolutions, including the maintenance and repair of its video security system.  Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Dreamland Story Time With Bob Shea: 7 p.m. Join special guest Bob Shea, author and illustrator of picture books “Dinosaur Vs. Bedtime,” “Dinosaur Vs. Potty,” “Dinosaur Vs. The Library,” and the upcoming “Dinosaur Vs. Santa,” for Dreamland Story Time. Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Yu-Gi-Oh: 4 p.m. Bring your cards and challenge other teens during a duel at the Yonkers Library. One winner each week wins the tournament. Community Room A and B, Riverfront Library, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Thursday, Aug. 23

Veterans Only Job Fair: 11 a.m.  Employers throughout New York City, Westchester and the Hudson Valley will be at the Empire City Casino for a Veterans Only Job Fair, giving military veterans direct access to open employment positions. Empire City Casino, 810 Yonkers Ave.

St. John’s Farmers Market: 8 a.m. Come check out the selection of locally grown fruits, vegetables, flowers and homemade breads. The market also features a selection of new and used clothing, toys and jewelry and other things. All proceeds from donated items are used to maintain and restore St. John's Church, 1 Hudson St.
