Friday, Jan. 4

Learn To Snowboard Or Ski: This two-day course will teach the basics of snowboarding or skiing. Instructors will give a two-hour presentation Friday, teaching you how to get started in snow sports, and continue Saturday on the mountain. It includes rental equipment, in-store and on-mountain instruction, lift ticket and transportation. This class is for adults 18 and older. The cost is $165 for members, $185 for nonmembers. The Friday class meets at 7 p.m. at REI East Hanover. For Saturday's on-mountain class, participants will meet at 7:40 a.m. at REI East Hanover, take a bus to Camelback Mountain in the Palisades and return at about 8 p.m. For more information visit the store's website

Saturday, Jan. 5

Story time: 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Watch and listen as storytellers from Roosevelt High School entertain children with puppet shows, dancing, storytelling, singing, interactive music and more. Small People’s Room, Yonkers Riverfront Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Sunday, Jan. 6

Heroes: 1 p.m. The story time series continues as volunteers read stories illustrated and interpreted by artist Jerry Pinkney. C. Anthony Bannister will tell the story of “John Henry and Minty: A Story of a Young Harriet Tubman." Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave.
