YONKERS, N.Y. -- Untermyer Performing Arts Council (UPAC) has announced the return of a summer favorite: a full season of free outdoor concerts and performances from Aug. 2 through Sept. 6.
The festivities take place each Saturday evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Untermyer Park, 945 N. Broadway, Yonkers.
Here is the schedule:
Saturday, Aug. 2, Danza!: A Celebration of Latin Choreographers with Connecticut Ballet: In keeping with the “Worldfest 2014” theme, this year’s program will showcase choreography by Rodney Rivera of Puerto Rico, Alberto Alonso of Cuba, Daniel Fetecua Soto of Colombia, and Marcos Vedoveto from Brazil.
Saturday, Aug. 9, LOVELIGHT: An Uplifting Gospel Music Journey: For WorldFest 2014, a group of stellar gospel vocalists will present an uplifting evening of traditional and contemporary gospel songs.
Saturday, Aug. 16, “Dancing Crane’s” Georgian Dance Theater: The Dancing Crane Georgian Dance Theater is a group of dancers, singers and musicians who present traditional performing arts of the former Soviet republic of Georgia. Songs include folk music in the various regional styles, church songs, city songs, romances and songs from the Georgian classic and opera repertoire.
Saturday, Aug. 23, Lori Belilove and The Isadora Duncan Dance Company’s “Viva Isadora”: Lori Belilove and her company continue the dream and indomitable spirit of ‘the mother of modern dance.” Duncan’s vision combined new and old, creating a modernist, free form expression, unencumbered by the then rigid rules of ballet, while drawing from the classical Greek revival and Italian renaissance.
Saturday, Aug. 30, Sounds of Korea with the Korean Traditional Cultural Center: The Sounds of Korea Music and Dance Ensemble elevates traditional music and dance from their homeland to a higher level.
Saturday, Sept. 6, “Broadway on Broadway” A group of Broadway and community talents come together for an evening of music and theater.
