In a phone interview from his New Jersey home, John Lyon, the band's ever-youthful lead singer and founder, made clear that he is a contented and inspired man who attacks each performance as if he were singing his songs for the first time. Southside Johnny sees the New Year as another calendar full of days to perform and party with his fans.

"I'm a blessed guy," Lyon said. "I've been able to sustain a career doing what I love ? writing, playing, performing music ? for most of my adult life. Whatever level of success I've had, I don't count birthdays. Each day is a day to enjoy what I do."

A New Jersey boy who grew into his musical career alongside band mates like Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven Van Zandt of Springsteen's E Street Band and "Sopranos" fame, Lyon has been pleasing fans for more than 40 years. He began performing at 18 and has not stopped growing and living his musical dreams.

“With the Jukes, you’re out there every night leading this great rock 'n’ roll circus, giving it everything you’ve got," Lyon said. "If I didn't get a thrill from performing, getting that response, I'd quit. I get a lot out of being out there with the musicians."

The Jukes' brand of raucous rhythm and blues, soul and rock and roll has produced more than 30 albums, including the most recent CD, "Men Without Women," a live replay of a Van Zandt recording from 1982. The CD was recorded in Asbury Park at last year's Jukes Stone Pony club performance, with Van Zandt in attendance.

Lyon said the album features a track-by-track performance of the 1982 album, along with three classic Jukes bonus tracks ? "This Time it’s for Real," "Broke Down Piece of Man" and "It’s Been a Long Time" ? featuring Van Zandt.

"The music never gets old, so we can't either," Lyon said. "Each show has a life of its own. We try new things ? sometimes we crash ? but the audiences are there with us. We're out there giving all we have and fans seem to know that and go with us."

For Westchester fans, Jan. 11 at Life in Ardsley offers a chance to join the Jukes for an up-close musical experience.
