Ridge Hill Academy Launches Sixth Session In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – Ridge Hill developer Forest City Ratner Companies and Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) will kick-off the sixth session of Ridge Hill Academy, an innovative career-exploration initiative for Yonkers high school students, Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ridge Hill Shopping Center WestMED building, second floor.

The academy was created by a $100,000 grant from Forest City presented to YPIE in 2013. Through training, seminars and mentoring, Ridge Hill Academy teaches participating Yonkers students about management careers in the retail and shopping center industry. 

This fall’s program will have eight meetings and will showcase speakers from different sectors of the center’s operations including Securitas (security), L.L. Bean, Karen Auster Agency, (marketing and event planners for Ridge Hill), Frannie’s Goodie Shop and the Cheesecake Factory.

This session’s opening program will feature Luke Heywood, president of Heywood & Company Motivations, who will discuss, "How to Make the Most Out of Opportunities"; Andrew Hardy, Ridge Hill general manager, will welcome the new class; and Frederick Llamas Gorton, a former graduate of the program, will share his insight and experience from his participation in a previous session.

Whole Foods Market will provide the students with healthy snacks and drinks.

Yonkers Partners in Education is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of Yonkers Public School students who complete a post-secondary program that prepares them for a successful career.It partners with the Yonkers Public Schools, business and philanthropic communities and higher education institutions.

The Ridge Hill Shopping Center WestMED building is at 73 Market St., Yonkers.
