The block party, sponsored by the Community Baptist Church, will close North Broadway between Ashburton and Wells avenues from noon to 6 p.m., and will feature many free and fun activities for children and adults.

Some activities include live entertainment, a bouncy castle and school supply giveaways. Hudson’s bike rodeo will take place from noon to 3 p.m.

“Bike rodeos are a great way to give back to the community and help spread the word about the  importance of healthy eating habits and exercise,” said Mark Santiago, vice president of retail operations at MVP Health Care.

At the Yonkers Bike Safety Rodeo, officers from the Yonkers Police Department will provide children  and their parents with personal instruction on the rules of the road, and demonstrate the proper way to strap on a bike helmet for maximum protection.

The police officers will also inspect bicycles to make sure that the brakes work, seats are at the right height, and the tires are in good shape.

After the inspection, kids will be able to implement what they’ve learned by navigating their bikes on a mini-obstacle course. They will be expected to follow traffic signs, use turn signals, and keep an eye out for potential hazards. As an extra bonus, all children who participate will be given a raffle ticket for a chance to win free bikes and helmets.

There will also be blood pressure, HIV and other medical screenings available without charge.

In the event of rain, the Yonkers Bicycle Safety Rodeo will be held in the Yonkers North Broadway Armory, 127 North Broadway (at Quincy Place), Yonkers.
