Brook Adkins of Mechanicsville says she was running errands in December when she stopped at Centre Liquors in Leonardtown to purchase scratch-off games and decided to play Racetrax, too.

She played the 8, 9, 10, and 12 horses in a Superfecta Box configuration for 20 draws. The bet consisted of a 10-cent wager for each of the possible combinations of those four horses finishing in the top four spots. She added the Bonus multiplier.

Adkins didn't check the ticket until later in the day and waited until the New Year to claim her winnings for tax reasons.

She claimed her prize on Jan. 24.

Adkins says she has no immediate plans for her winnings and will save the money for now.

Also celebrating her lucky win is Centre Liquors. The Lottery retailer located at 40955 Merchants Lane in St. Mary’s County will receive a bonus of $292.95 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
