It happened on Sunday, Nov. 3 at approximately 12:20 a.m. in Centereach.

Robert Bickmeyer, 60, of East Patchogue, was driving a 2006 Nissan eastbound on Portion Road, at the intersection of Avenue B, when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking in the bicycle lane, Suffolk County Police said.

The victim, Giovanni Menendez, 40, of Holbrook, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Bickmeyer was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, Nov. 3.
