North Arlington parking officer has foot run over while writing ticket, driver sought

CLIFFVIEW PILOT EXCLUSIVE: A North Arlington parking violation officer was injured today when a motorist he tried to give a ticket ran over his foot.

Michael Shafrin was writing the ticket on Ridge Road when the motorist saw what was happening, ran across the street and got into the driver’s seat, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

The SUV then ran over Shafrin’s foot, the chief said. The parking officer punched the side of the vehicle before he went down, he added.

A suspect has been identified and “we are doing our due diligence to bring him in,” Ghione said.

Shafrin, a 37-year-old EMT, was released after being treated.
